Faculty Colloquium Series: Snapshots and Snippets |
12/03/09 to 12/03/09 |
11:00 AM to 11:50 AM |
Faculty will be reading from their own work, any genre. All faculty are invited to read. Five minute limit per person. There are voices in our department and in our university that don't often get heard. Perhaps the faculty member feels that his or her in-progress writing isn't ready to share. Perhaps the faculty member doesn't want or need an entire 50-minute session. Whatever the reason, we are not getting to enjoy these voices and talents. Therefore, as we enter the holiday season, also known as the work-intensive season for college professors, this colloquium session has been reserved for any faculty member who wishes to share only a snippet of his or her work: a snapshot that reflects a greater whole, one we may clamor to expand upon at a full colloquium session in the future. Poets, novelists, essayists, memoirists, writers, all ! You are invited to read from your own work for five minutes (or more, if time allows). Come to hear your colleagues and friends share their work. Come to share your own. Light refreshments provided. |

Hypnotist Tom DeLuca |
12/01/09 to 12/01/09 |
7:00 PM to 8:30 PM |
Tom DeLuca opens the windows to the imagination by combining the power of suggestion with his volunteers' innate creativity. Voted Entertainer of the Year for 4 years by colleges across the country, Tom was also voted Performing Artist of the Year. It is evident that DeLuca presents hypnosis like no one else in the world! National media hold this view of Tom DeLuca as well. He is the only college performer to be featured on NBC's "Dateline" as well as the front page of The Wall Street Journal. His appearance on daytime talk shows; Maury Povich, CNN, MTV, Showbiz Today, Regis Philbin, PBS' Charlie Rose Show; and feature articles in Rolling Stone and People magazines (plus front page of The Wall Street Journal) are testimony to his popularity to both college campuses and the general public. What sets Tom's show apart from others is that it gives the audience insight into common traits that we all share. "His approach is to forgo the gimmickry in order to reveal the fun and wonder hidden in the attics of his volunteer's minds. There are moments of joy and happiness on stage" (Rolling Stone Magazine). With Tom's show, hypnosis truly goes beyond entertainment to reveal how powerful people's imaginations can be. "The results of Tom's show are fascinating, hilarious, at times even poignant. Don't miss him" (The New York Post). This event is FREE thanks to Student Activity Fees as allocated by the Finance Division of Student Government. Anyone with a disability who needs special accommodations to attend should contact 231-591-2606 at least 72 hours in advance. |
